Buddhist Imagery

Casting casing for making Buddha images, showing the face.

Wat Sainyaphum in Savannakhet, Laos, has a small workshop for manufacturing large Buddhas. They are seated Buddhas in the typical "calling the earth to witness" pose, but they're about a meter tall. It was interesting to see the multiple parts of the cast used to create the Buddhas - above you can see the face and top of the head. I like the optical illusion the face creates.

White lotus flower.

The lotus flower is very heavily tied to the Buddhist religion. It grows fairly readily all over southeast Asia, and is also cultivated because of its ties to the religion. This one was growing in a big pot of water at Wat Sainyaphum.
