Cooking School (Chiang Mai)

I went back to school today, to Baan Thai to learn how to cook Thai food. I love to cook, and I love Thai food, but my biggest motivation this time was to learn what the hell I've been eating ... There have been a lot of things in dishes I've eaten that I haven't been able to identify. Our first stop for the day was the market, where we were shown a great number of vegetables and spices. This helped a lot in my quest to figure out what all the anonymous veg in my dishes have been. Then we went back to the school where we cooked Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, Savoury Minced Chicken Salad, Green Curry Paste - which went into Green Curry with Chicken, and finally Water Chestnut in Coconut Milk (a dessert). Eating all of this food in a short period of time left me a little overstuffed, but it was a really enjoyable experience. How many of the ingredients I'll be able to find in Toronto is open to question, but I expect I'll be able to get most of them. I look forward to it.
